Dorian Quintet Plans
Archival Recording Project

In 40 years of touring, performing, teaching and coaching wind quintets throughout the world, the Dorian Wind Quintet has amassed thousands of hours of studio and live recorded performances in a variety of media formats. To preserve the best of this work, the quintet would like to compile an archival CD spanning the group's history.

As you are probably aware, this is a monumental undertaking which will require the scouring of all past recordings for the best performances, digitally editing them for optimal production quality, and then distilling the final selections into a multi-disc collection.

In addition to a definitive rendition of the recently commissioned Variations on a Theme of Antonin Reicha, the package will contain photos from the Dorian's 4 decades as well as anecdotal literature about the pieces, composers and events surrounding the quintet's recording of these works. We believe this will be an outstanding addition to the world of chamber music recordings, and we expect it will be the first compilation of its kind in wind quintet history.

Of course, all of this will take a good deal of time (hopefully not another 40 years!) and a fair amount of resources to pull off, which is why we're counting on you, our dear audience and loyal supporters to assist us once again in our "labor of love." Please join us in our quest to make history.

You can help us in 3 big ways.

  • If you have any suggestions about past Dorian repertoire that you would like to hear on our compilation CD, please let us know and we will consider it.
  • If you are a recording engineer with experience in remastering old recordings or a printer who can produce complex CD inserts and you would be willing to volunteer or donate services, we will be eternally grateful.
  • Of course, if you prefer to donate much needed funds for this project, your generous tax deductible financial contributions are always welcome and should be sent in the form of a check or money order payable to The Dorian Woodwind Quintet Foundation, Inc. at the address below:
